As rumored, AMD confirmed this morning at its 2008 Financial Analyst Day that it’s ready to provide architecture for netbooks. After AMD talked about growth potential and its server business, Dirk Meyer, President and CEO of AMD took stage to give us the news we were waiting for.

Meyer detailed AMD’s 2009 product line up and front and center was a category for mini-notebooks (we assume since netbook is Intel’s term they are staying away from it). The Yukon 1H09 platform is targeted at the mini-notebooks and ultraportables. Expected to be available in the first half of 2009, it will be a platform that is capable of higher end computing smaller and thinner notebooks.

Meyer also showed off the client processor roadmap (see the image below). For ultraportables (and we assume this includes netbooks), the  “Consesus” will be available in 2009 and is based on 45nm architecture and is dual core. Geneva and Ontario aren’t due out till 2010 and 2011, respectively.

As for mainstream notebooks, AMD’s Tigris 2H09 is the company’s next platform and promises HD video, improved battery life and 45 enhanced mobile dual core processors.

Between ARM and AMD, Intel’s Atom should be getting a run for its money soon. But the success will depend on both performance and price.
